Debbie Trenholm

DebbieBWIn the past 13 years, Debbie has been devoted to helping Canadian winemakers, brewmasters & artisan cheesemakers forge strong, engaged ties with consumers.

Debbie’s enthusiasm for sharing creative social experiences, her refreshing approach to marketing & her in-depth industry knowledge have helped her clients increase their market access. At the same time, she has developed Savvy Company into the go-to resource for consumers & the media.

As a Sommelier, Debbie knows experience is every bit as important as theory. She has explored the wine, beer & cheese industries across Canada & around the world – from picking grapes during harvests in Tuscany, Italy to bottling wines & designing labels in Ontario’s Niagara & Prince Edward County regions – all to gain appreciation for the many hands involved.

While Debbie has traveled the globe, she is proudly Canadian & firmly rooted in the Ottawa community, providing outstanding services & giving back wherever possible. She is dedicated to making wine, craft beer & artisan cheese universally accessible, empowering novice and experienced aficionados alike by sharing her extensive knowledge.

Debbie’s achievements & personal commitment to Savvy Company have earned her a place on the Ottawa Business Journal ‘Forty Under 40’ list, as well as Professional Services of the Year honours from the Ottawa Chamber of Commerce Business Achievement Awards. In 2010, Debbie was recognized as a finalist for Ottawa’s Businesswoman of the Year Award. In October 2013, Debbie was selected to be on the Board of Directors for Ontario Culinary Tourism Alliance – a not-for-profit organization that bridges the gap between the food & travel industries.

Debbie founded The Savvy Grapes, in 2003, a business dedicated to making wine accessible through creative social experiences. Initially focused on hosting & marketing wine & food events, she has since developed Savvy Selections – Ontario’s largest ‘wine-of-the-month club’ that has helped generate new revenue streams for Ontario wineries.

In November 2008, The Savvy Grapes transformed into Savvy Company – and under this new brand, the team of Savvy Sommeliers again expanded the business scope to include the emerging industries of artisan cheese & craft beer. This strategic decision has received rave reviews. Within a year, Savvy Hip Hops craft beer of-the-month club has become the largest in Ontario.
