With over 15 years of experience in both corporate and agency environments, Paul is an accomplished public relations practitioner. He has developed and executed award-winning campaigns that successfully cut through the clutter and delivered on business objectives. Paul has proven himself to be strategic and incisive, with strong communication skills and media contacts and a reputation for integrity, collaboration, and client focus.
Throughout his career, Paul has had the privilege of working with top executives from companies in a variety of industries – from toys and cars to athletic shoes and apparel to food and financial services. He has managed and executed programs centred around product launches, industry changing and leading initiatives, Olympic campaigns, community engagement events, customer usage and retention campaigns, corporate and executive profile building and crisis and issues management.
At GoldFenix Communications, Paul has helped build a strong consulting business based on the principles of excellent client service, strategic solutions that are linked to business objectives and impeccable program execution. He offers clients strategic planning, project management, media relations, media training, and issue and crisis communications counsel.
Corporate experience – Paul was a Community Marketing and Public Relations Manager at Foresters. Paul developed and managed strategic marketing and public relations programs in conjunction with many of Foresters key philanthropic partners like the Children’s Miracle Network, Prevent Child Abuse America and Denver Children’s Home. Earlier in his career at MasterCard Canada, he worked with member financial institutions such as the Bank of Montreal and Canada Trust, to develop strategic marketing and communications programs to increase credit card acquisition and retention.
Agency experience – Paul spent close to eight years working with a variety of premiere clients at two Toronto-based public relations agencies. As a Senior Consultant and then Group Manager at one firm, Paul managed a team of communicators to plan and deliver public relations programs for some of the agency’s largest clients including Mattel, Blockbuster, AIR MILES and InterContinental Hotels Group. Paul and his team won two prestigious industry awards including best media relations campaign for the development and release of the first Canadian-specific Barbie doll; and best use of a special event for Barbie’s sponsorship of Canada Blooms, Canada’s largest garden and flower show, that helped launch the new Barbie Fairytopia DVD and doll line.
Prior to this, Paul was a consultant at a mid-sized public relations agency where he helped develop and execute media relations and communications campaigns with clients including General Mills, Nike, Bell, Shoppers Drug Mart, Bolivar Gold Corp. and Saturn.
Early in his career, Paul was also fortunate to gain valuable experience when he was a member of the media relations team formed to support the Onex bid to restructure Canada’s airline industry.
Most recently, Paul was honoured to be a part of the GoldFenix team that produced two Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Gala events at Roy Thomson Hall and the Celebration of the Life of Nelson Mandela at the University of Toronto for the Lieutenant-Governor of Ontario.
Paul is a recipient of the Lieutenant-Governor’s Community Volunteer Award.
