2017 Tamarack Ottawa Race Weekend to celebrate Canada’s 150th birthday with major new event
“Amazing Party in the Park” will raise funds for vulnerable youths in Canada’s north
Ottawa, ON – Run Ottawa and Ottawa Media Group (OMG) are partnering to throw a huge party in 2017 to kick off the Tamarack Ottawa Race Weekend, raise funds for children in Canada’s northern communities and celebrate Canada’s 150th anniversary!
Amazing Party in the Park will raise money for OMG’s charities, with a particular focus in 2017 on Project North, which supplies sports equipment to northern children who have community centres — but very little sports equipment. Run Ottawa and OMG share the belief that sports are an important factor in mental health.
In addition to Project North, OMG will also be raising funds for SchoolBOX and Hera Mission. Money raised at Amazing Party in the Park will be spent on scholarships for Ottawa young people who will learn leadership skills while building our schools in Nicaragua and Kenya.
“We’re so happy to have this opportunity to use our popular event to support local businesses that are philanthropic while championing a national cause that promotes health and fitness,“ says John Halvorsen, Run Ottawa President, and Tamarack Ottawa Race Weekend Race Director.
Kimothy Walker, OMG Managing Partner, says “It’s a perfect fit for us, to make sure Canada’s 150th celebrations help children in Northern communities to acquire sports equipment, while celebrating amazing people in Ottawa.”
Amazing Party in the Park will take place on the very spot where 52,000 runners will converge in a huge tent over the following two days.
Early bird tickets are now available and feature a VIP option for dinner and a Canadiana-inspired concert under the stars. Those just wanting a concert ticket will have that option. Thousands are expected to take part in the event.
“Ottawa 2017 is proud to help promote Amazing Party in the Park, an event that will add momentum to the year-long celebrations of Canada’s 150th birthday in the capital,” said Guy Laflamme, Executive Director, Ottawa 2017 Bureau. “This is a perfect example of how the celebrations will highlight Canadian culture, values and leave a lasting legacy.”
Tamarack Ottawa Race Weekend and Ottawa Media Group can think of no better way to celebrate our nation, our history and our desire to always do better.
